Nano Ontario is a 4th pillar organization of academic, government, industrial, and finance community members with a mutual interest in the development of the province’s potential in nano technology. Nano Ontario exists at the will of its members and as a sign of its members’ willingness to work together to raise the profile, increase the research, build the investment and drive economic returns from nanotechnology and nano-science in the province and across Canada.
Nano Ontario with the advice and engagement of its members:
- Acts as a voice for nano-science and nanotechnology in Ontario and for the contribution nano makes as an enabling technology in the province’s priority economic sectors
- Acts as a co-ordinating body and a point of contact for policy and regulatory advice to government
- Acts as a co-ordinating body for public outreach and education on the benefits of nano-science and nano-technology
- Acts as a single point of initial contact for those within the province, nationally, and internationally with an interest in Ontario’s nano capacity
- Maps Ontario’s nano capacity – both expertise and facilities - in research and development, industrial applications, and policy and regulation
- Actively builds and brokers connection between academic research and the private sector within and outside the province
- Represents Ontario nationally in the development of a Canadian nano strategy and identity
- Acts as a broker of advice from Ontario to international standards bodies and information from those bodies to the members of Nano Ontario.
- Joins with its sister organizations in other provinces in telling the Canadian nano story and developing business opportunities nationally and internationally in nanotechnology.
In time Nano Ontario may come to:
- Act as an agent of government to run programs specifically targeted at support of nanotechnology
- Broker access to specialized nanotechnology facilities within the province and elsewhere
